CONFINED SPACE ENTRY AND MONITOR

This one-day course is designed for workers who are required to enter and/or monitor entry into restricted/ confined spaces.


Course Objectives:

• Identify minimum legislated standards

• Provide basic information in relation to the identification and classification of restricted/confined spaces, including their associated risks

• Explain requirements for working in or around restricted/confined spaces

• Offer recommendations and provide resource information regarding the methods used to control associated hazards

• Provide information relevant to worker entry and monitoring worker entry

Course Content:

• Legislated definitions of terms associated with restricted/confined space work and Codes of Practice (COP’s)

• Hazard identification and assessment procedures, e.g., atmospheres which are oxygen-deficient, flammable, or toxic

• Confined space entry preparation – plans, permits, signage, entry logs


Hazard controls:

• Engineering (ventilation, isolation)

• Administrative (atmospheric testing, training, entry plans)

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (respirator, harness)

• Roles and responsibilities of workers, managers, supervisors, confined space entry/monitors

• Emergency response requirements

• Restricted/confined space planning requirements

• Review/discussion about the three (3) levels of confined space as defined by the OSSA Regional Code of Practice

Certification:

• This course has a written exam component for which participants must achieve a minimum score of 80% for course certification

• Re-certification is required every three (3) years
