FIT TESTING

The Northern Safety Association (NSA) is pleased to announce that we now have Certified Fit Testing available to all of our northern communities.

Respirators play an integral role in the protection of workers, and the communities they serve. Fit testing assesses the fit of a respirator to ensure it fits the user’s face correctly and protects workers from inhaling airborne contaminants. Fit testing will help to improve an organization’s Internal Responsibility System (IRS) and meet the compliance requirements under section 91. of the Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Regulations for Nunavut and Northwest Territories.

Fit testing can be conducted for individual workers and companies on an as-needed basis, and is available on or off-site.

Fit testing takes approximately 30 minutes per person. Prior to fit testing, please ensure:

  • You supply your own N95 or Half Mask and associated filters and cartridges (during the COVID-19 pandemic);

  • You are clean-shaven no more than 12 hours prior to testing, with all facial jewelry removed;

  • You don’t consume coffee, food or tobacco 30 minutes prior to testing.

To ensure your continued health and safety, the NSA has implemented the following precautions and controls:

  • All equipment will be sterilized after each fit test;

  • Fit Test Technicians are required to wear gloves and masks at all times, and dispose of gloves after each fit test;

  • All subjects are required to complete a declaration form and Fit Test Assessment form.
