Construction work in the North comes with unique conditions, responsibilities, and hazards. The Northern Safety Association provides practical safety training to help workers, supervisors, and employers build the knowledge and skills needed to work safely and meet workplace requirements.

The courses below highlight key training areas for the Northern construction industry.

Leadership For Safety Excellence‍ ‍- WSCC (Supervisor OHS Familiarizatoin).

This course provides mandatory WSCC-approved online supervisor training for Nunavut and NWT, covering safety responsibilities, safety management systems, leadership, and workplace safety culture.

Ice Roads Safety and Awareness

This Ice Roads course covers safe work in northern environments, including ice road conditions, hazard assessment, emergency response, cold-weather protection, and self-rescue techniques.

WHMIS - Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System

This WHMIS 2023 course provides an overview of hazardous materials, updated classification requirements, and safe handling practices to help learners understand workplace hazards and work safely. It also highlights key responsibilities and practical information learners can apply in the workplace.

TDG - TRANSPORTATION OF DANGEROUS GOODS

This course covers Canadian Transportation of Dangerous Goods requirements, including classification, documentation, safety marks, containment, exemptions, reporting, emergency response, and safe transportation practices.

PTSD - POST TRAUMTIC STRESS DISORDER (AWARENESS IN THE WORKPLACE)

This course builds awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder, including common signs, workplace impacts, supportive communication, stigma reduction, available resources, and return-to-work considerations.
